Ford joins the Robins flock
Tuesday 17 July
Alex Ford has become our third new signing of the summer after a successful trial.
The 19-year-old front man has agreed a one-year deal after impressing boss Kevin Wilson and scoring in the 6-0 victory over Leek at the weekend.
Ford ended last season playing for AFC Beeston, who are members of the Notts Senior League and Midlands Amateur Alliance.
Wilson is confident the youngster can take the step up in his stride and his hoping he can be the latest young player to make an impact at the New Manor Ground.
“I think Alex is a player who has a chance of making the grade,” he said. “He’s only 19 and 6ft 4ins tall, so he has plenty going for him.
“Although he’s a big lad, he needs to get stronger physically, but that will come with time and he has a good touch for a big man.
“He was recommended to me and since coming in he has done very well, so certainly deserves to be offered something.”
Ford follows experienced players Laurie Wilson and Jamie Clarke in signing for the Robins this summer.
Wilson added: “We have brought in some senior lads, but the focus is still very much on the development of young players. That is what our club is about.
“We hope we can develop Alex into an excellent player and both we as a club and he as a player are looking forward to the challenge.”
