Ilkeston FC suspend Ricketts
Gary Ricketts, Ilkeston FC’s star striker has been suspended pending an inquiry into incidents that took place in last night’s pre-season friendly against Mansfield Town at the New Manor Ground.
The game was abandoned after 73 minutes - with Mansfield leading 4-2 - following a clash between Ricketts and John Thompson, which led to the Stags defender being taken to hospital with facial wounds.
Mansfield had already had two other players taken off with injuries.
Said Ilkeston FC chairman Dave Mantle: “We are obviously upset about any player being seriously injured and particularly wish John Thompson a speedy recovery.
“Kevin Wilson and I have already met to discuss Gary Ricketts’ part in the incidents but we need to gather more evidence and speak to the player himself before deciding our next course of action.”
A further meeting is planned for later today.
