Richards commits to Robins

Highly-rated midfielder Matt Richards has delighted manager Kevin Wilson by signing a new contract with Ilkeston FC.
For long periods this summer it was expected the talented 22-year-old (pictured) would leave us to move to pastures new and play at a higher level.
But after starting pre-season at the New Manor Ground, he has opted to continue the development that saw him shine so brightly at the back end of last season.
Wilson is confident that if the Derby-born player carries on where he left off in 2011-12, a move to a bigger club will come his way eventually.
“It is like making a new signing and a very good one at that because at one point I didn’t think we were going to keep him,” said Wilson.
“I think there is a trust there between Matty and me. I understand he wants to play higher and we are not going to stand in anyone’s way if the opportunity arises.
“We didn’t stand in Tyrell Waite’s way when Notts County came in for him and Matty knows I am a manager who wants to see his players get better and move up the ladder.
“It’s the same for all the good young players we have here and if they all have another season like last season then we are going to be in the hunt for another promotion and there are going to be plenty of clubs looking at our lads.”
Wilson is also keen to finalise his goalkeeping plans for next season, with Ashley Timms having played a part in Ilkeston’s last two games.
He is also considering the future of Josh Hill, who earlier in the summer looked as if he may leave the New Manor Ground to move abroad following the completion of his university studies.
Wilson said: “The goalkeeper is something that I’m working on at present and that I’m hoping to conclude over the next couple of days because it’s a very important position.
“I will also be looking at Josh’s situation as well, along with the trialists we have had in, but the good thing is we have some real quality in the squad at the moment.”
