Swift offered League One trial

Saturday 15 September

Highly-rated Ilkeston FC Academy goalkeeper Ryan Swift has been awarded a three-day trial at League One side Colchester United.

The 17-year-old shot-stopper, who arrived at the New Manor Ground at the start of last season after a spell with Notts County, will take part in training for two days as well as feature in a Under-18 Professional Development League 2 match with Millwall today.

Said Ilkeston FC manager Kevin Wilson: "Colchester United have been scouting Ryan for a while and their manager John Ward got in touch during the week to offer the trial.

"We've always said that we'll never stand in the way of any of our lads if the offer comes in from a club higher up the League ladder.

"This is a great opportunity for Ryan and we all hope it goes well for him. He's come on a lot in the last year and is a lad with plenty of promise."
