Wilson warns to expect a shake-up
Wednesday 25 July

Kevin Wilson today warned that there could be changes “in and around” the Ilkeston FC playing squad over the next three weeks.
The Robins’ boss was understandably delighted about the impressive way in which they chalked up a 3-2 win over League Two Burton Albion last night but he firmly believes that things are still not right.
He explained: “It was an impressive performance with lots to be pleased about but my concern is that not everyone is seeing the bigger picture.
“I need those on the fringes to pick up their game and start to put real pressure on those who are ahead of them at the moment. I don’t want people around the place who are happy just to sit on the bench and they ought to know by now that we won’t settle for mediocrity.
“We’ve had a number of players coming in on trial after being released by League clubs and they have really impressed me. They are in the 18-20 bracket, which is the right age range for this football club, and they are desperate for a chance.
“The word is out that Ilkeston FC are a club who re-invent young players and my feeling at the moment is that there might well be changes in an around the squad over the next three weeks.”
Although the Robins fell behind in disappointing fashion against Burton Albion, they came storming back to establish a 2-1 lead before the break as the Burton ‘keeper parried a Jack Watts (pictured) cross into his own net, and Ryan Wilson found the top corner from 25 yards.
Burton got back on level terms after 65 minutes but almost immediately, Watts collected a flick-on from Gary Ricketts and scored a splendid winner.
Next up for Ilkeston FC is a trip to Gresley Rovers on Saturday and that’s followed by an attractive home game against Port Vale next Tuesday.
